The oboe is a specialty beginning band instrument, known for its bright and expressive sound. It is a double reed instrument and a member of the woodwind family.

Physical Characteristics

To play the oboe, it is important to have even teeth and the ability for the upper lip to cover the upper teeth. Hand size is important to for oboe players, as the instrument has a larger reach than many other woodwinds. Students that are double jointed will often experience difficulty with finger dexterity on the oboe.
